The World's Columbian Exposition (also known as Chicago World's Fair or Chicago Columbian Exposition) was a world’s fair held in the city of Chicago, Illinois of United States of America. The residents in Chicago recorded the event as a major achievement, whose activities were heralded in different parts of the world. The event, which was held in 1893, occupied about 600 acres of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Jackson Park. Several cities that submitted a bid to host the fair include Missouri, New York, and Washington D.C. However, Chicago received the award to organize the event by the United States Congress. The World's Colombian Exposition lasted for six months and it recorded the highest number of attendants than the preceding US World’s fairs.
Throughout the fair, over 150,000 persons walked through the event grounds. One appreciable and obvious effect of this fair is the development of that region. The event brought rapid growth in parts of the city - for instance, new housing structures were made for the fair workers. There was also the construction of hotels and entertainment centers for people visiting from within the United States and various parts of the world. Over the years, these places have become centers for tourism and resort for foreigners, especially during summer. Other attractions that sprout up during that period were huge white buildings. This gave the exposition a sobriquet, “White City”. Nevertheless, some structures erected of the fair were not designed as permanent structures.
There were diverse benefits from the World’s Colombian Exposition in 1893. People had the privilege to meet others from varied cultures. Amazing and incredible innovations from around the world were on exhibition; this allowed shared knowledge and experience. Attendants of the fair returned with new ideas in different aspects such as technology, showbiz, commerce, business, industrialization, and many others.
