Islam is a major monotheistic religion founded in the seventh century CE by the Prophet Muhammad, centered on the foundational belief that there is only one God (Allah) and that Muhammad is His final messenger. The core of Islamic faith and practice is structured around the Five Pillars: declaring one's faith (Shahada), performing ritual prayers five times a day (Salah), giving to charity (Zakat), fasting during the holy month of Ramadan (Sawm), and making a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime if physically and financially able (Hajj). Guided by the Qur'an, which Muslims believe to be the literal word of God, and the Sunnah (the recorded actions and sayings of Muhammad), Islam emphasizes absolute submission to God's will, spiritual discipline, social justice, and a strong sense of community, directing its global followers toward a life of ethical righteousness and devotion.
