The history of the Celtic culture can be traced back as early as 1200 B.C. The Celts are composed of various tribes that originated in central Europe. They shared similar religious beliefs, languages, culture, and ancestral traditions. The Celts spread throughout parts of western Europe, but were most prominent in Ireland, Scotland, and Great Britain, where their cultures and traditions still has a significant influence in society.

Beginning of the first century B.C., Julius Caesar of the Roman Empire launched a military campaign set out to destroy  the Celts, killing them by the thousands and removing them from much of mainland Europe. As the Roman Empire seek to  conquer much of the European continent, the Celts sought refuge on the islands of Europe's western coast. The Celts had controlled much of the European content north of the Alps mountain range by the turn of the third century B.C. It is on these very islands that the Celtic culture was able to survive and flourish. The unsuccessful attempts by the Roman armies to invade Britain and its surrounding islands allowed the Celtic people to establish their homeland in Britain - hence why the Celtic culture is deeply enrooted in the English, Scottish, and Irish people.

In this collection, we will also explore the comprehensive and rich history and origin of Druids.  Embodied in the cultural background of the Irish and Celtic indigenes are the popular people famed for magical traits, the Druids. In present Ireland, there still exist certain ancient monuments and captivating images of magic that have withstood the decline of pagan practices in the country. The Druids held elevated positions and were revered as elites among the Celtic people. They were seen as legal professionals, religious leaders, scientists, teachers, judges, and medical experts. Druids were also custodians of legends and culture.

The majority of people who lived in the society at that time were mainly illiterates, but many druids were believed to be literate. However, they were hideous of their knowledge, as there was no documentation of their tradition and craft. You can say their practices were comparable to the present-day priests, the link between the gods and the people. They are reputable personalities and highly respected members of the Celtic society. Druids commanded incredible power and influence. They could ostracize people from society for defiance of sacred laws. In times of warfare, they serve as mediators between the opposing parties, yet they do not engage in battles.

The history of the Druids dates back to the 2nd century BC and it can be traced to the culture of Celtic and Gaulish in Europe. Due to the limited records of the original genealogy of Druids, diverse mysteries surrounding their history. During their era, they relied more on verbal traditions and alienated themselves for having any written records. However, certain cultures such as the Romans sought to preserve and commemorate the practices and culture of the Druids. Learn about the history of the people of Celtic and Ireland, as well as other historical details of the druids.

Take a look at the sample pages taken from just some of these books in the collection.
