Most of the theories concerning the Atlantis that have been put out over the centuries contain some rudiments of truth. Not in its entirety are the myths regarding the location false, there are speculations that they could be credible. Numerous explorers and experts toured the world and gathered a similar set of findings that describes the location of the lost continent. The locations of these experts include the Caribbean, Turkey, the Atlantic Ocean, and Antarctica. Ancient philosophers also made statements concerning the location of the Atlantis. Plato gave an account of these explorations. He explicitly stated that the Island is positioned at a place close to the Atlantic Ocean, just beyond the ancient Pillars of Hercules. He claimed that the lost continent was an Island that had a larger landmass than the combination of Asia and Libya. However, if any truth about the location of the Atlantis should be discovered, the postulates by Plato would be disregarded. This is because not all the researches and studies to find the actual position, fits in with his description.
Over the years, there have been advanced research methods applied to oceanography and mapping of the ocean floor to find the Atlantis. With all these work and theories to find the exact position and unravel the mysteries of the lost continent, there has been no tangible result. This enhances the speculations that it is most likely a myth. Though there are still diverse mysteries to discover on the ocean floor, it is implausible that a landmass bigger than Libya and Asia has always eluded the best oceanographers, sea divers, and submariners.
Furthermore, the plate tectonics indicates that the existence of the Atlantic is improbable. There is no possible way such a large land surface would have been lost in the region suggested by Plato. Presently, geologists and archaeologists conclude that the lost continent of Atlantis did not exist. In this collection, we will explore the mysteries surrounding the lost city of Atlantis - including Plato's writings on the subject, past research and studies, ancient texts with reference to the lost city, stories, and its history.
