Over the years, there have been attempts by different persons to provide a precise meaning to dreams. They have mostly associated their dreams to the interference of a divine personality. There’s that belief among most humans that God always sent messages to them through their dreams. The message could be related to a present situation or a future prediction. The interpretation of dreams gained prominence and was popular during the classical Greece era. There were experts who knew how to interpret dreams and foresee the future of people. The names of some persons who practiced the interpretation of dreams during the classical periods were recorded in books such as the Iliad and the Odyssey.
The first theory on dreams and their significance was written in the work of Sigmund Freud in the 1900s, the title of the work is “interpretation of dreams”. In his book, he stated that the act of sleeping functions as the window that the mind uses to delve into the depth of our desires and urges that we might have suppressed during our daily routine. Presently, the work and theories of Sigmund Freud are integrated to provide therapeutic methods that study the human mind, this is known as Psychoanalysis. These therapy sessions help the client to recall the activity of the dream and dig into his latent desires and fears.
