Judaism dates back barely 4,000 years, making it the oldest monotheistic religion in the world. Its literature is an important part of understanding the Jewish faith, which has a rich and fascinating tradition that combines cultural practices, religious laws, and social traditions.
The Torah is the foundation of all Jewish sacred texts. It contains the five books of Moses, which cover the creation of the world, the covenant between God and Abraham, the exodus from Egypt, the creation of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai, and the wanderings through the desert before the Israelites reached the entrance to the Promised Land.
Next to the Torah, one of the most commented-upon Hebrew texts is the Talmud, whose name refers to the act of study. There are two Talmuds: Jerusalem, which is shorter and primarily focused on legal matters, and the Babylonian, which contains 2.5 million words on 4,894 pages. Together, they have inspired several volumes of commentary and form the basis for religious rulings even today.
If you are interested in learning more about the ancient texts that have fascinated scholars of history and religion for centuries, this collection contains over 251 books that includes Talmud commentary, Jewish social histories, and more.
Take a look at the sample pages taken from just some of these books in the collection.
